Compulsory Installation Policy

If government body constructs or extends or remodels the building, which has total floor area more than 1,000㎡, compulsory proportion (15% in 2015) of expected energy consumption must be supplied with new & renewable energy.
(Compulsory proportion is more than or equal to 12% from 1 January, 2014)


Compulsory Installation Related Law

Article 12 and section 2 in the Promotion of the Development and Use of New and Renewable Energy Law, and article 15 in its enforcement ordinance

· Implemented from 29 March, 2004
· For extending or remodeling buildings, it’s applied from 15 March, 2009
· Revised on 13 April, 2011 (Construction Cost → Energy Consumption)
· Revised on total floor area (3,000㎡ → 1,000㎡) from 1 January, 2012
· Revised for increasing compulsory proportion from 1 January, 2015


Regulated Organization

· Governmental or local governmental bodies
· Public enterprise, defined on article 5 in Management of Public Bodies Law
· Organizations of government funded, more than the amount defined in related enforcement ordinance
· Government funded corporations, defined on article 2 and clause 6 in the National Property Act
· Corporations funded by local government, public enterprise, government funded organization or corporation with surpassing given
   proportion or amount of funding

- Funded more than or equal to 50% of its capital
- Funded more than or equal to 5 billion won for its capital

· Corporations founded by a special law


Buildings for Compulsory Installation

Public use
Correctional, broadcasting communication, and business facilities (military facility is excluded)

Education and social service use
Cultural, rally, religious, medical, educational, accommodation, training, exercise, cemetery, tourist, and
funeral facilities

Commercial use

Business, sales, transporting, accommodation, and amusement facilities

※ Residential and special purpose facility such as a warehouse and storage and treatment facilities for dangerous substances
※ Educational facility was included from 10 September, 2008
