For a singular purpose, experts from various fields have gathered in one place. Introducing Mac-Net, the first practitioner-centered Triple Helix Networking Cluster in Korea.
The era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which we now face, is characterized by digital technologies such as AI and big data forming the foundation of industries.
Therefore, creative convergence and communication, which are inherently human domains, become values of utmost importance. This holds true for Korea's marine industry, a perpetual source of national sustenance.
Korea is a leading shipbuilding nation, consistently vying for the top spots globally, and has seen remarkable growth in the shipbuilding equipment industry.
Additionally, Korea ranks as the world's 7th largest shipping nation and 9th largest supplier of seafarers. Furthermore, it is a maritime powerhouse with its own international classification society.
To foster an ecosystem where the maritime industry, government, academia, and research institutions can share technology and information through networking and achieve mutual development through collaboration, Mac-Net was established in November 2015.
It has operated as a consultative body with 49 related organizations, including shipbuilding, shipping, ports, equipment, classification societies, and finance, all signing MOUs. In November 2019, it was re-launched as the Marine Integrated Cluster Association (Mac-Net).
The mission of Mac-Net is to skillfully operate the network of the three pillars – private sector, government, and academia – which is the core spirit of the cluster, ensuring that the voices of practitioners in each field are well integrated and reflected in government marine industry policies.
Mac-Net has been dedicated to sharing diverse opinions from industry, academia, government, and research, and deriving creative and progressive conclusions.
