The Korean shipbuilding and marine industry is facing extreme difficulties due to the prolonged global economic recession, which has led to a severe contraction in new ship orders. Our marine equipment industry is also on the brink of survival, grappling with reduced volumes, plummeting operating profits, and rising costs.
To address these challenges more efficiently and protect the livelihoods and future stability of countless partner companies, approximately 1,000 small and medium-sized marine equipment companies located in Gyeongsangnam-do have established the “Gyeongnam Marine Equipment Association ” We are tirelessly working on joint crisis response, promoting cooperative projects, and enhancing industry competitiveness.
Our association is leveraging the industry's accumulated know-how to boost the capabilities of the marine equipment sector and enhance competitiveness through technological advancement. We are conducting various support initiatives including government advocacy, overseas marketing support, technological development and capacity building, global information provision, and cost reduction assistance. We are committed to ensuring that regional marine equipment companies can fully demonstrate their strengths both domestically and internationally by promoting international exchanges and cooperation and establishing strategic partnerships.
In the future, our association will strengthen the external competitiveness of the industry by promoting collaborative projects such as the creation of cooperative industrial complexes, shared facilities, and management collaboration. We will also establish a joint marine equipment logistics center in collaboration with major domestic shipyards and global logistics companies to address environmental issues, streamline challenging processes, and reduce costs. Additionally, we aim to build a strong export base by forming councils with national marine industry organizations and buyers to identify annual equipment purchase demands, support contracts, conduct regular support projects, and facilitate networking. This will help balance domestic and export markets and enhance the survival of the industry.
